What stands out (July 2026)
Vitality is the only insurer whose behaviour programme feeds back into your premium: activity points build your Vitality status (Bronze upwards), and higher status brings reduced excess and lower renewal increases — plus the famous perks (Apple Watch from £9 upfront on an activity-linked credit agreement, up to 40% off Garmin, 50% off Virgin Active membership, weekly coffee/cinema rewards). Vitality says it returned £108 million in value to members in 2025 and has 1.9 million UK insurance members.
Clinically, the standout is self-referral: up to 8 Talking Therapies sessions (CBT, counselling) and up to 6 physiotherapy sessions in-network, both without a GP referral, plus a video GP usually within 48 hours (99% of virtual GP consultations happen within 48 hours per its 2024 claims report). GP appointments don't count as claims, so no excess applies.
Cancer and add-ons
Advanced Cancer Cover is core: Vitality states full cover for all eligible cancer treatment from diagnosis through treatment and recovery. Optional upgrades include enhanced mental health (full Talking Therapies cover, £1,500 outpatient outside the network, 28 days inpatient plus 28 day-patient, with limits restored after 56 clear days), outpatient cover from £500 to £1,500 or full (MRI/CT/PET always in full regardless), optical/dental/hearing cashback, therapies, and worldwide travel cover.
Watch-outs
- The default Consultant Select option means Vitality picks the panel of consultants you choose from — free hospital choice needs the Countrywide or London Care add-on, and face-to-face GP visits carry a £20 co-payment in a handful of cities.
- The rewards mechanics reward engagement; if you won't track activity, you're paying for a programme you don't use, and renewal increases won't be dampened.
- Entry stops at 79 (plan holder and partner must be 18–79 at start date), and Vitality publishes no overall claims-paid percentage.
Who it suits
Active people who'll engage with the points system, anyone likely to use mental health or physio support (the self-referral routes are genuinely faster), and app-first users. Poor fit if you want set-and- forget cover or free choice of any consultant without add-ons.

Vitality's own published example is £1.45/day — £44/month — for a 30-year-old in Peterborough with full medical underwriting, Consultant Select, £250 excess and £500 outpatient benefit (plan start Sept 2025 basis, page checked July 2026). Your age, postcode and options move it.
If you engage, yes: status progression brings reduced excess and lower renewal increases, and Vitality reports £108m of member value returned in 2025. If you won't track activity, a plainer policy elsewhere may serve you better.
Up to 8 Talking Therapies sessions (like CBT and counselling) are included as standard with no GP referral. The optional enhanced mental health cover adds full Talking Therapies cover, £1,500 outpatient outside the network and 28 days of inpatient plus 28 days of day-patient treatment (verified July 2026).
